Green Slime Shop is pleased to present this t-shirt from their On Tour series dedicated to the tour that, after recording their first album in February 1984, Dead Can Dance embarked on in different parts of Europe. To illustrate this t-shirt, which of course never existed as a promotional item in its day, we have used a medieval engraving that we believe perfectly illustrates the sounds of their early days and also links to the band’s name. We have combined gothic typographies, others that fit the composition, the Greek typographies of their first album and the first Dead Can Dance logo that appeared on the first album.

Limited edition 25 handnumbered copies only!

Dead Can Dance's early period, which for us would comprise from their first eponymous album to The Sepent's Egg is a very interesting and original mix of sounds ranging from after-punk, medieval, ethnic and even ambient music that makes every album of the band a constant surprise during the listening. Obviously, as you can see from the t-shirt we have made, our favourite album is the first one because of the surprise and the special experience it was to listen to it back in the day and how different they seemed to us despite being on an already different label like 4AD.

Titles like The Fatal Impact, The Trial, Fortune, A passage in time... are music from their time that is rooted in the post-punk of the era but done in a very special way, while others like Frontier, Musica Eternal are tracks that seem to foreshadow the band's predominant style in the future. A personal favourite is Ocean, a song that navigates between the two aforementioned currents sung in a magical way by Lisa Gerrard.
