1985 was The Cure’s breakthrough as a globally successful band, the two singles released that year, In Between Days and Close to Me, plus the LP The Head on the Door, contributed to The Cure going from being a cult band to mainstream and being in all kinds of media all the time. In addition, the band, after a turbulent period, laid the foundations for their most enduring line-up with the return of Simon Gallup after his departure in 1983.

This key year also consolidates the sound that Robert Smith with The Cure started in 1983 after their LP Pornography and that mixed all kinds of styles, from New Order songs, psychedelic songs, some of their past, Spanish guitars, Japanese sounds… a kaleidoscope of styles that brought them to fame.

We wanted to celebrate with this t-shirt the year that many of us got to know The Cure because sometimes a band’s rise to fame means that young people who are looking for new sounds can open a door that leads them to a new dimension of sounds.
