Surf’s Up was not just the title of an album—it was the crown jewel of Smile, Brian Wilson’s unfinished project that haunted him for the rest of his life and marked the end of his artistic ambitions. Ironically, though incomplete and unreleased for years, Smile remains one of pop music’s highest achievements—timeless, visionary, and light-years ahead of any other album of its time.

For the design of this T-shirt, we used an iconic image of Brian Wilson on the beach with a surfboard from the 1970s, which we reinterpreted as a comic-style illustration with mechanical halftones and two overlapping inks.

On the back, dedicated to the Surf’s Up album, you’ll find the tracklist along with an illustration based on The End of the Trail sculpture, which appeared on the album cover. Additional elements include the tree, representing “A Day in the Life of a Tree.

Limited edition 25 handnumbered copies only!

Brian Wilson (1942–2025) was one of the most visionary and influential figures in the history of popular music as the principal songwriter, arranger, and producer for The Beach Boys, Wilson redefined the boundaries of what pop music could be. Though the band initially rose to fame with sunny surf hits, it was during the transformative years between 1965 and 1967 that Wilson reached his creative peak.

In this period, he pushed far beyond the conventions of mainstream pop, drawing inspiration from jazz, classical, and avant-garde composition. The result was a series of groundbreaking recordings that combined intricate harmonies, richly layered arrangements, and deeply personal lyrics. Albums like Pet Sounds (1966) and the legendary (and initially unreleased) Smile project are widely regarded as masterpieces that reshaped the sound of modern music.
